Short, daily prayers are recommended by the Prophet Muhammad to protect ourselves from Satan and his descendants.

Ablution and Prayer for Protection from Djinns

A person can be partially protected from djinns when he has ablution in his daily life, he can increase this protection if he also performs prayer and prays.

Protection from Djinns with Tersanctus

In a hadith recorded by Haris el-Eh’ari [1]Hadith: Actions and words of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, which are considered general rules and highly valued by Muslims, it is narrated that Prophet Muhammad said: 

“…God commanded you to mention his name. An example of this is a man followed by the enemy quickly. This man comes to a fortified castle and protects himself from the enemy. So is the man. He can protect himself against Satan only by mentioning God.” [2][Tirmizi, Emsal, 3, (2867)]

About this topic, the following is written in Qur’an: “If the Satan will try temptation (an evil urge) you, immediately mention the God.” [3]Fussilet, 41/36 In other words, say “Euzü billahi mine’ş-şeytani’r-racim”.

It is recommended to seek shelter from God from Satan and his descendants with the following verses in Sura Muminun: “Rabbi euzü bike min hemezeti’ş-Şeyatin ve euzü bike Rabbi en yahdurun.” “My Lord, I seek shelter from you from the temptation of Satan and their presence with me.” [4]Müminun, 23/97-98

“If a person mentions the name of God when he enters home and eats, Satan says (to his descendants): “You are not allowed to stay overnight or eat here!”. However, if the person mentions the name of God when entering his house but he does not mention while eating, the Satan says (to his descendants): “Here is your dinner but you are not allowed to stay overnight!”. If the person does not mention the name of God when entering home or eating, the Satan says (to his descendants): “You made to the dinner and staying overnight!” [6][Müslim, Eşribe, 103, (2018); Ebu Davud, Et’ime, 16, (3765)]

Protection from Djinns and Satan While Leaving Home

The Basmala said while entering the house protects us from the evilness of Satan and keeps him away. Prophet Mohammad did not only say Basmala while going out, but he also prayed. In this regard, in the hadith narrated from Companion Enes, it is narrated that Prophet said:

“Whoever says, ‘In the name of God, I put my trust in God and strength comes from God’ while going out from the house, he will be told, ‘Do your business, you are guided, sufficed and protected’ and the Satan will stay away from him.” [7][Tirmizi, Daavât, 34, (3422)]

In a hadith narrated by Companion Abu Hureyre, the Messenger of God said: “Do not turn your houses into graves, the Satan runs away from the houses in which Surah Baqarah is told.[8][Müslim, Misâfirin, 212, (780)]. In another hadith, it is explained that these two verses are “Amenerrasulu”, which are the last two verses of Surah Baqarah [9]Tirmizi, Sevabu’l-Qur’an, 4/2882.

When You Get Into the Bed to Sleep

There are different prayers that the Prophet Muhammad say when he went to the bed. In this respect, in a hadith narrated by Companion Bureyde, the Prophet recommended the following prayer:

Hey, the Lord of seven heavens and their shadows, hey, the Lord of earth and what it carries! Hey, the Lord of the demons and their impostures! Protect me against the evil of all these creatures! Protect me so none of them can suddenly attack me. The one you protect becomes a saint. Your praise is great and there is no creator but you, you are the only creator.[10][Tirmizi, Daavât, 96, (3518)]

When You Scared While Asleep

According to what is narrated from Imam Malik, Companion Halid Ibnu Velid said to the Prophet, “They scare me when I’m a sleep (What would you advise me to do?)”. The Prophet recommends him to say the following prayer: “I seek protection from God from his wrath, his punishment, his servants, delusions of the demons and their companionships with all names of God![11][Muvatta, Şiir, 9, (2, 950)]

While Going to Bathroom

Bathrooms, dumping sites, baths, graves, and ruins are places where djinns and demons often visit and stay. Prophet Muhammad used to say the following prayer when he went to the bathroom to relieve his needs:

Allahümme inni euzü bike mine’l hubsi ve’l-habais.” (My God, I seek your protection from dirt and evil creatures (such as djinn and Satan) [12]Buhâri, Vüdu, 9.

Protection from Djinns with Tersanctus

The Prophet tells us that Satan reminds the daily tasks of the person while he is performing prayer and let them get back to his work by forcing them to perform the prayer quickly without tasbih.

Our Prophet says the following in a hadith narrated from Companion Abu Hureyre:

Whoever says the ‘Lâ ilâhe illallâhu vahdehu la-şerike leh, lehü’l mülkü ve lehü’l-hamdü ve hüve alâ külli şey’in kadir.’ pray 100 times in a day, he will be rewarded with the good deed as if had freed ten slaves, also a hundred good deeds will be recorded in his favor and his hundred sins will be forgiven. Also, God protects him from Satan for three days until the evening.[13]Buhâri, Daavât, 54

Surah Ihlas Against Satan’s Temptations

In a hadith, Satan’s delusion is narrated, and it is recommended to say Surah Ihlas and then spit to our left side three times.

Surah Nas and Falaq

It is narrated that the Prophet reads Surah Nas and Falaq to get rid of the evilness of djinns and recommended the same to his companions and the Prophet Aisha.

When the Prophet gets into his bed, he blows his hands and read Surah Nas and Falaq, rubs his hands on his face and body, and repeats this three times. He also ordered me to do the same to him when he got sick.[14]Buhari, Fezâilü’l-Kur’ân, 14
